About the Artist

Michelle Carolina Levie

Michelle Carolina Levie is a Dutch/Colombian visual artist and photographer whose practice spans painting, photography, and artist-led publishing. Born in Boston, MA, and having lived and worked across Cairo, Amsterdam, New York, London, Valencia, Madrid and Doha, her work is informed by an ongoing engagement with place, culture, and the relationship between nature and human presence.

She holds a BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York (2015) and completed a master’s program at PHotoEspaña in Madrid in 2020. Alongside her photographic work, Michelle has maintained an ongoing painting practice rooted in material exploration, color, and abstraction, often informed by landscape, memory, and natural rhythms. Her paintings function as contemplative objects, inviting slow looking and dialogue within intimate cultural spaces such as bookstores and galleries.

Michelle’s work has been exhibited across Europe and New York, including RotterdamPhotoXL 2022 and an exhibition at GANT Serrano Flagship store in Madrid. Her career includes collaborations with internationally recognized artists and institutions. She has worked alongside photographer Jimmy Nelson and has partnered with brands, museums, and cultural platforms that value storytelling, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

In early 2025, she relocated to Doha and co-published Complements, a coffee table book exploring traditions, food, and the act of gathering around the table. The project developed into an incredible collaboration with the Museum of Islamic Art and IDAM restaurant, where we co-created the workshop COMPLEMENTS: A Dialogue Between Islamic Heritage and Contemporary Taste.

Michelle currently lives and works in Doha, Qatar.
